The largest diamond mined in Yakutia

At the largest diamond deposit in Russia, in the north of Yakutia, experts mined a gemstone weighing almost 200 carats. This was reported in the press service of the company "Alrosa". The gemstone was extracted at the factory No. 12 of the mining and processing plant of the Udachnaya kimberlite pipe.

“Such findings of large diamonds of jewelry quality, weighing more than 100 carats, confirm that the reserves of the Udachnaya kimberlite pipe contain a lot of unique precious raw materials,” said Yevgeny Agureyev, board member, director of the Alrosa sales organization. According to him, hundreds of such stones have been discovered since the beginning of the discovery of the deposit.

According to Agureyev, in the near future a copy will be sent for detailed study. A diamond similar in weight was mined more than two and a half years ago. The Udachnaya pipe was opened in 1955; it belongs to the largest diamond deposits both in Russia and abroad.

Previously, experts from the Institute of Geology and Mineralogy of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Novosibirsk State University explained that the yellow diamonds found in Yakutia are of organic origin, reminiscent of the Flashsiberia news agency. According to scientists, precious stones crystallized from the remains of organisms that lived on the surface of the Earth.
